Poster Analasys - Daisy Hook
The poster for Shutter Island lets us know that its a thriller in many different ways.
The first way that it does this is through the use of the weather. We can only see that its raining, and other than that we can only see that its very dark, this tells us the mood of the film through pathetic fallacy showing that its going to be a dark film.
The island itself is a collage of a number of photos, giving us an idea perhaps that the film is about piecing together the evidence or completing a puzzle.
The main block of text is kept away from the main image and is kept to the middle alignment.
The main part of the text that our eye is drawn to is the title not only because its the biggest font but because its a vivid red colour, the font also looks like it has been stamped, this could give us an idea about the location, ie places that use red stamps, hospitals, drop in centres Ect.
The colour palette used in this poster is very synonymous with fantasy horrors, a variety of shades of blue and brown, most of them being darker shades. this gives us a clue that the storyline will also be dark in its theme.
Even though the title isn't in a striking colour its still the thing that our eye is drawn to because of its placement. The title also ties in with the setting with the R of the title leading off into a branch.
the main image is of a little girl (who is the main character) walking in to the split trunk of a tree. We are meant to veiw the girl as being vulnerable and innocent, which is very juxtaposed to the setting, being very old and ominous.
All of the main text is placed in negative space apart from the tag line which is placed over an image of the moon, which can tell us that the majority of this film will be set at night.
We can tell this film is probably going to be a comedy from the words saying "from the director of The Mighty Boosh" which was a very wacky comedy.
The poster its self is very colourful we can guess that the film is going to be colourful as well. The poster also has marks on it for instance over the U of Bunny is a coffee mug stain, as if its been used for a place mat or forgotten which you wouldn't really see with other film posters but in itself is quite quirky considering that posters are meant to be kept pristine and clean so this tells us that the film its self is going to be rather quirky in its nature.
The poster is split up into 3 sections, the main image, the title and pictures of the supporting actors. the production block is situated underneath the supporting actors images along with all the other production details.

First Day of Filming
Today was rather successful talked about how we were going to film the scenes. We weren't able to film the walking the dog scene because of weather conditions but we managed to get the ending filmed as well as the brushing teeth scene. We also managed to get a couple of transition shots filmed.

Notes
We're not really looking at any particular genre or theme at this point we are more considering what is within our reach in terms of making the short film in terms of our resources and actors available.
First we are assigning roles based upon our individual strong points
So Reece will handle more of the editing and blog as he is better with the IT side of things as has a strange aversion to filming but happy to do as much as he can from his computer and comfy chair.
Daisy and George will handle more of the filming side of things in place of Reece, as both enjoy filming a lot more and are not as capable with IT and are not as familiar with the macs as Reece is.
Daisy and George also do subjects within the drama department so will have better access to some actors from the drama department. These people also should be better actors than if we did it ourselves or sourced random people as they should enjoy acting more and have a better understanding or body language and facial expressions.

A film like the short film 2:20 is a great for ideas
This film is a great short film to derive ideas for us as it doesn't really have anything that would be out of our reach as it just has a great use of camera shots and editing techniques.
I believe we should take this approach when trying to construct our film, keep it simple yet quirky but we do have to consider that our film will be about 3 minutes longer and this quite a lot of time to fill with a short film as most I have seen while researching are less than 4 or they go on a lot longer and can span over 8 mins.

WE HAVE MORE PROBLEMS
All of our actors fell through at the last minute, so we are going to have to step up and be in the film ourselves. Filming starts this Friday at Daisy's house. We will film all the vital scenes including the opening, dog walk, bathroom and ending two. Tonight I will film ending one with the bunk beds. When both are done we will compare the two and choose the best one to use in the final film.
Daisy's house was not available at the beginning so we have had to try and find a suitable place to film. After trying Daisy's grandma's, my house, my friends house and the college we finally were able to use Daisy's place. This has been a problem over the past week but now it has been resolved we cam get all the filming we need done.
Scheduling a time we are all free has been a major issue. Our timetables at home and college are so hectic it has been difficult finding a time where we are all free. We finally came to an arrangement so we can all go to Daisy's house at the same time. We were going to try and film the scenes separately but we all work better in a team.

Synopsis
The build up to Halloween is a spooky time for everyone, but Clara has every reason to be worried. Clara is a girl who has a rather vivid imagination, which unfortunately links in with her love of all things horror.
AS she goes through her day to day life things take a turn for the worse, simple games of hide and seek turn into running away from a murderer, dinner time becomes rather cannibalistic and a few uninvited guests appear when they really shouldn't. Clara's older sister Daisy is taking care of her whilst their parents are away on holiday. so its up to Daisy to keep Clara safe. But as Clara believes she has escaped the worst, things that go bump in the night aren't necessarily in her imagination.

WE HAVE PROBLEMS! - Daisy
already we have encountered some problems with casting.
The ideal was to have a young boy to play the main part and an older boy to play the part of the older brother. George had connections to friends who had children of their own that we could use but we couldn't get the permissions to use them for the filming.
I then had the idea to use my cousin for the main part and swap the role to be played by a girl. but the day i phoned my aunt to ask...they were getting ready to go on holiday, so that was out of the question.
Finally we realised it would be easier to use older actors and show them as being younger so i got my performing arts course mate Ellie Thomas to play the younger sister, and because i have an acting past I'm going to play the older sister and Reece will be the friend that jumps out of the hedge.
Problem Solved! ....hopefully.

Inspiration-- Daisy
For our film the inspiration was pulled from Lots of horror films and TV programs.
One unlikely source was from a cartoon that was part of my childhood, the cartoon was called Mona the Vampire..
The series follows the extraordinary adventures of 10-year-old Mona Parker a.k.a. Mona the Vampire and her friends as they battle monsters. The reason this is part of the inspiration for us is because all the monsters and ghouls are in their imagination, they tweak the truth to see what they want to see.

Paranorman.
Norman Babcock is a boy who can speak to the dead, but no one besides his eccentric new friend, Neil, believes his ability is real. but its up to him to save his town from a curse that the witch has placed upon the dead.
The ABC's of Death.
The ABC's OF DEATH is an ambitious anthology film featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world's leading talents in contemporary genre film. Inspired by children's educational ABC books, the motion picture is comprised of 26 individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death.

George's Short Films
1) Connection:
Virgin Media Films
Film maker: markmc
Synopsis: Nobody has the right to look down on somebody else. 'Connection' deals with how homeless people have been pushed to the edges of society. Just because they are homeless does not mean that they still don't want to be a part of society. Why somebody is homeless is not the question but how we treat them or fail to on a daily basis. We all need human contact on some level. It is a human condition.
Genre: Drama
Running time: 2.19

Genre: Drama
Running time: 2.19
The film opens with text; ‘Zoology Films’ and the title ‘Connection’. A close up of the zip on a sleeping bag then fades up from the black. The camera then pans up to a close up on the mans face. He’s cold and tired. These first few seconds show how the film is going to represent social status and representations of the homeless. There is then a fade into a mid shot of the homeless man. Because he is sitting on the floor, the shot shows all of his body but only the legs of the people walking past. Nobody stops, they walk past and don’t even glance at him. The his represents his social class. A man then drops a coin and turns to pick it up. The camera haphazardly zooms in on the homeless man as he looks up. A man and a woman both reach down for the coin. The worm’s eye view shows both the hands reaching down and bumping each other. There are then several shot reverse shot’s as the man and woman talk about who’s going to pick up the coin. There is then a wide mid shot as both the man and woman bend down to pick up the coin. They crash heads and stand up straight again to show the homeless man sitting between them smiling. This is a representation of the homeless mans attitude toward his life.
2) GOTH:
Virgin Media Films
Film maker: mjscott
Synopsis: Persecution of subculture is at an all time high, the Goth's are on the run but where do they go?Genre: Thriller
Synopsis: Persecution of subculture is at an all time high, the Goth's are on the run but where do they go?Genre: Thriller
Running time: 2.20
This film entirely revolves around the topic of representation, and how a specific subculture is represented. I tis about how ‘Goths’ are represented in popular culture. The film shows a news report telling people to ‘stay vigilant’ and look out for any signs of trouble. It also shows the living conditions of the people being discriminated against. Goths are then rounded up and boxed up. Goths are represented as lower class citizens; none have stable living conditions and all are being persecuted against. This is by far my favourite short film I’ve looked at. The editing and the camera shots make it really interesting to watch.
3) When I’m Sixty Four:

Virgin Media Films
Film maker: matjohns
Synopsis: 'When I'm Sixty-Four' is a short film about finding allies in unexpected places. Two outsiders, an old man and a young boy, come together and show their peers that a generational gap cannot hinder friendship.Genre: Drama, Comedy

Running time: 2.20
In this film it shows representation and judgments of a person. In the beginning teenagers are represented at cruel and rude, old people are represented at incapable of helping themselves and making judgements about children. As the film goes on judgments and a persons view is changed. The old man, Trevor, accepts the help of the boy, Sean. This makes Trevor change his view of children. He shows the teens that he is still cool. Old people and kids are represented in a non-traditional way in this film and I think that is what makes it enjoyable to watch.
4) Ambition
Virgin Media Films

Synopsis: Six year old Thomas has an ambition, an ambition to save up his pennies to buy himself a toy from his favourite toy shop. Once his piggy bank is full, Thomas is confronted with a dilemma and has a big decision to make.Genre: FamilyRunning time: 2.18
Throughout the entire film we see this little boy getting bits of money from family like the uncle who looks like The Trickster from Barney Live and working and doing chores to earn pocket money. The boy then puts all the money into a piggy bank, all to save up for this little stuffed dinosaur. The mise en scene shows that the boy loves toys with the Ben 10 character on his desk and the amount of work he does to ensure he has enough to get this toy. When he has finally saved up enough however, he chooses to give it to a charity instead of buying what he wants. I think this is a very accurate but not a common representation of small children. Kids are far more likely to give to a charity than an adult is. Children who have grown up with parents or carers who tell them to be kind to others are very caring and do give their pocket money to charities or buskers or the homeless.
